Project Overview

Air quality is crucial for overall health, especially for youth in schools. Poor air quality can exacerbate asthma and allergies, leading to increased absenteeism and lower academic performance. Airlume aims to address these issues by providing comprehensive air quality monitoring and improvement solutions.

Target Problems

Asthma Statistics: 1.8 million emergency visits, 14 million missed school days, and 3,517 deaths annually due to asthma.

Impact on Schools: Poor air quality leads to increased absenteeism, lower grades, and graduation rates. Economic losses for schools due to absenteeism can be catastrophic, especially for low-income districts.

Current Solution

Airlume collaborates with local partner to monitor and improve air quality through:

  • HVAC Monitoring Sensors
  • Advanced Air Filters
  • Innovative Disinfection Technology (SteraMist)

Data Processing

Data from sensors is collected and processed through:

  • Installation: Sensors in hallways, classrooms, and open spaces.
  • Extraction: Data collected via ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular/Bluetooth.
  • Storage: Data placed into a cloud or data lake.
  • Display: Organized and categorized data displayed on Airlume's dashboard.

Data Visualization

Airlume's dashboard provides accessible information to users, including:

  • Index Level Interactive Scale: Categorizes pollutants with color-coded dots indicating health status.
  • Overall Building Comfort Level Graph: Tracks air quality trends throughout the school year.
  • Particle Categorization Diagram: Details on particle types and associated health risks.

To enhance Airlume's current solution:

  • Dashboard Integration: Combine and upgrade data from Trident-X into a single interface.
  • NanoEnvi Sensors: Monitor AQI conditions, measuring key pollutants.
  • Efficient Filtration System: Implement EAC for automated filtration, using SteraMist as a backup.
